Pat Buhr, or Patrick Buhr III, is an officer in the United States Marine Corps. Not only is he the third Patrick, but he is also the third military service member — just like his father and his grandfather. During the time in which we met with Pat, he was stationed at Camp Lejeune, but he had lived in the Onslow County area for years as a child.

Before joining the military, Pat went to Jacksonville High School and then to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill — where he was part of the ROTC program.

Pat reminded us that Jacksonville is the youngest city in America — simply due to the number of young Marines stationed there. Marines and their families alone count for 40,000 people in Jacksonville. Pat also reminded us that there are 137,000 Marines total — with a large percentage situated in this small coastal county.
